The staff has a high professional level both in methodical and subject fields. All the teachers of the school (18 people) has qualification categories. 10 teachers are possessors of the diplomas “A Soros Secondary School Teacher” repeatedly.
The teachers have issued 27 scientific publications on different modern information educational technologies.
Sergiev Posad Gymnasium of Physics and Mathematics was opened on September, 1, 1990. The school is placed in the centre of town of Sergiev Posad in a 2-storeyed building. The building was founded in 1891 as a Philaret School with an orphanage for boys.
Gymnasium of Physics and Mathematics gives the education at the advanced level in Physics , Maths, Programming as well as optional pre-university courses for students of other high schools.
The school has Creative Collaboration Treaties with leading Moscow universities and prepares entrants for them.
The educational process at the school is carried out through lessons, lectures, seminars, laboratory-practice classes, options, group and personal consultations, meetings with scientists, specialists etc.
A considerable share of time in the educational process is given to the individual schedules, work in scientific groups and seminars, independent research and laboratory work.
Lecturers from Moscow Physics Engineering Institute (MEPhI), Moscow Physics Technology Institute (MPhTI) and others constantly take part in the educational process.
The school has prepared:
- 245 winners and prize-holders of District Olympiads;
- 465 winners and prize-holders of University Olympiads;
- 240 winners and prize-holders of Region, Zone and Republic Olympiads;
- 9 prize-holders of the International Olympiads “Young Space Explorers”;
- 10 winners of All-Russia Final George Soros Olympiad;
- 1 winner of the International Physics Olympiad (1997, Sudbury, Canada).
For the last 5 years the school’s students have been candidates to the national team taking part in the International Physics Olympiad.
During 12 years of its work the school was finished by 675 school-leavers. All of them have entered higher educational institutions, mostly Moscow State Lomonosov University, Moscow Physics Engineering Institute (MEPhI), Moscow Physics Technology Institute (MphTI) and others.
On September, 1, 2000 a new physics laboratory started its work at Gymnasium of Physics and Mathematics. The Head of Sergiev Posad Region Vasily Goncharov helped to create it in 1999.
The instructor of the laboratory is Vladimir Shutov. He is an engineer and a graduate of the Department of Physics, Nyzhny Novgorod Lobachevsky University.
Now the laboratory is being fit out with the equipment elaborated in Moscow Physics Technology Institute. It allows to experiment in all basic Physics sections.
The level of complexity of the laboratory experiments is between School and University ones.
Some laboratory works are organized with the help of computers, because the necessary equipment is too complicated. The complex of applied programs is worked out at the Department of Physics of Moscow State Lomonosov University.
The gymnasium is always winner of George Soros’ Grant. The gymnasium is rewarded by one of the leading Russian TV corporations (NTV) in 1999 and with the MPhTI medal (1998).
During the last six years gymnasium of Physics and Mathematics was three times chosen “The school of the Year” in the town of Sergiev Posad and Sergiev Posad Region .
